Engineering student, Jakub Garczynski, has been awarded the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Merseyside and Western Cheshire Local Network Prize (which the Isle of Man is part of), following Ryan Christian being awarded the prize last year.
This prestigious award recognising outstanding commitment and performance in engineering studies and celebrates students who are pursuing courses within a broad scope of engineering disciplines, such as electrical, mechanical and systems engineering.
Throughout his time studying the HNC in General Engineering at University College Isle of Man (UCM), Jakub has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication to his academic and personal growth. He has excelled across his programme of study, achieving distinction grades in many subjects, and routinely pushing beyond the core requirements of assignments. Jakub’s work reflects not only a strong understanding of engineering principles but also a genuine enthusiasm for deepening his knowledge.
In addition to academic achievement, Jakub has developed excellent technical and report-writing skills, producing work of a high professional standard. A key strength is his ability to draw upon personal engineering experiences, using these insights to enrich both his own learning and that of his peers. His contributions in class have added real value, demonstrating maturity and a collaborative mindset essential for the engineering profession.
A standout achievement came at the culmination of Jakub’s HNC studies, where he presented his project work to an audience of engineering specialists. This presentation was widely praised and reported as one of the best seen, highlighting not only his technical competence but also his confidence, clarity of communication, and professionalism.
His drive to continually improve and his commitment to excellence make him a highly deserving candidate for this award.
As part of the award, Jakub received a certificate of achievement and a monetary prize, along with the opportunity to engage further with the IET’s professional community. The Local Network Prize for Student Excellence continues to support and inspire students like Jakub, helping to build a more inclusive and dynamic future for the engineering profession.
